CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY AND THE PROCESS FOR THE SELECTION OF THE WINNERS

The winners of the HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Horseracing Excellence Awards, established by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will be honoured on Thursday, March 29, 2018, two days before the 2018 edition of the Dubai World Cup.

The Awards will recognise the best performances, throughout the year, of the horses, jockeys, owners and trainers who took part in the 2017 Dubai World Cup.

Officially announced by the Meydan Group in 2016 at the Dubai World Cup Post Position Draw, the Awards will honour the Best Horse, Best Jockey, Best Owner and the Best Trainer.

A. OVERVIEW OF THE PROCESS FOR THE SELECTION OF THE WINNERS

  • The process for the selection of the winners has involved four steps:
  • 1.The Jockey Club Information Systems Inc (TJCIS) (a wholly owned subsidiary of the Jockey Club) has sent monthly data files that contain racing results for the horses that have participated in the Dubai World Cup Day.
  • 2.Meydan has received the files from TJCIS, and transferred the files to Nielsen Sports without processing the files.
  • 3.A committee composed of experts from Meydan and Nielsen Sports have collectively developed the eligibility criteria as well as the scoring model.
  • 4.Nielsen Sports has received the data files from Meydan, and processed the data to determine the winner in each category based on the pre-determined criteria and scoring model.

C. TRUSTEES CHARTER

  • Purpose
  • 1.The Trustees’ Committee has been established to ensure due processes, selection criteria and guidelines are followed for the seven H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Horseracing Excellence Awards:

    • 1.3Best Jockey
    • 1.4Best Horse
    • 1.5People’s Choice
    • 1.6Lifetime Achievement
    • 1.7Dubai World Cup Excellence
  • 2.The Trustees will act as a sounding board for emerging issues, problems and initiatives.
  • 3.The Trustees’ Committee will maintain the probity and integrity of these awards.
  • Membership and roles:
  • 1.The Jockey Club Information Systems Inc. (TJCIS), a wholly owned subsidiary of the US Jockey Club, will compile data and supply it to the Trustees’ Committee.
  • 2.Dubai Racing Club will receive the data from TJCIS and transfer the files to Nielsen Sports.
  • 3.Nielsen Sports will provide analytics and insights into the data.
  • 4.KPMG, as well as ensuring that any information compiled by the TJCIS and as analysed by Neilson Sports is accurate, complete and current, will act as Secretary to the Trustees’ Committee.
  • Responsibilities:
  • 1.The Trustees’ Committee retains all rights in relation to HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Horseracing Excellence Awards and the issuing of any awards or prizes..
  • 2.The Trustees’ Committee retains final discretion as to the winner of each award and any associated prize.
  • 3.Any actions that are seen as contrary to either the rules or the spirit of racing may be grounds for disqualification from these awards.
